Recently app analytics provider Flurry released a five year report which states that app usage is continuing to grow surpassing mobile web surfing.

Flurry gathers its data from its network of over 450,000 mobile applications installed in over a billion devices coupled with comScore data to determine mobile browser and mobile app usage.

Time spent on a mobile device has risen to 2 hrs and 42 minutes per day from 2 hrs and 38 minutes per day in March of 2013. 86% of the average mobile consumer’s time is spent on apps. The rest of the time is spent on calls, text messages and browsing the mobile web. Consumers are spending only 22 minutes per day on a mobile browser.

The data tells a clear story that the mobile browser has been replaced by a multitude of apps.


Facebook earned 17.5% of the overall mobile advertisingrevenues according to figures released at the end of last year. Time spent on the Facebook app was 17% which is closely aligned to ad spend however this is not the case for Google. According toeMarketer, the search giant earned 49.3% of the overall mobile advertising revenues with only 18% of time spent on mobile.
